The Guinness Premiership will decide in January whether to enforce a capped wages scheme on all clubs in the division.
The economic downturn has left many teams struggling to cope with the added financial burden and a wage cap is seen as a quick and effective solution by some members. However, for the measures to be enforced it requires a 75% majority vote supporting the scheme.
Premier Rugby chief executive Mark McCafferty commented, “We would have to make that decision in January and in time for next season. If we don’t do it, we will take a range of other cost measures.”
